Our Mission

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in the Broome County area who have suffered from trauma due to direct impacts of Substance Abuse Disorder (SAD).
  • Loss of a parent
  • Abuse
  • Neglect
  • Other various impacts
Our goal is to empower children to reach their full potential by helping them to realize their dreams and ambitions to overcome poverty, addiction, homelessness, and incarceration or death.
Loss of a Parent
After a parent dies, children immediately feel that their world is unsafe. Families need to provide children with structure and assurances that their needs will be met. To help build those structures, we recommend parents and guardians, “don’t parent alone”. It takes a village to raise a child. It is important to draw on community resources. Encouraging bereaved children to connect with other kids is one of the best things parents and guardians can do.
     GOAL
Our goal is to connect children that have lost a parent due to Substance Abuse Disorder (SAD). Emotions pose a problem for children experiencing loss at any level. Research shows the importance of developing positive programs to help children express their emotions through social learning.* Each child learns from one another, via observation, imitation, and modeling.  With the right kinds of support from the community children and teens can adapt, learn to express their grief in healthy ways, and thrive. A parent’s death will have psychological and physical impacts on a child, but those impacts can often be mitigated with time, community and help.

Abuse and Neglect
Many studies from around the world have shown that children who have experienced the adverse effect of abuse or neglect are more likely to suffer mental and physical health problems. Also throughout life, under-perform at school, have difficulties in jobs and relationships. They abuse substances,  engage unsafe sexual behaviors resulting in unwanted pregnancies, contract STDs, or be involved in violence and delinquency. These consequences can be costly. The direct costs are associated with the burden on the health care, welfare, and criminal justice systems. The indirect costs associated with lowered economic earning potential over a life time.
GOAL
Prevention and early intervention is critical to helping children lead happy and healthy lives. These are local children who live in our communities, go to our schools, and play with our own children. The first step is, working together so we can learn to recognize the signs of abuse and neglect. Second, is developing the programs to help these children to express their emotions, through everyday activities. Some examples are : community gatherings, painting and music. Let's make it fun and exciting. Come join us and be a part of planting these seeds of hope and help impact this community for many years to come!

Education

Teaching children today allows for a brighter future, one in which they can both learn and teach.

Health

Eating healthy can help children
prevent disease and enable them to live a healthy, productive life.

Community

It takes an entire community to raise a child. Once that community is formed, anything can be achieved.
